As part of my Birthday present, my partner took me on a surprise trip to Venice this weekend just gone and it was absolutely amazing. It was really nice for both of us to get away from work for a couple of days and really enjoy some time together.
It's so easy to get caught up in day-to-day life and become so busy that you don't just enjoy the present and the time that you spend together.
I have been dreaming about going to see Italy for years and being taken to Venice was extra special.
We were there for 2 nights which was definitely enough time as Venice is actually quite a small place. So after you've walked around all the beautiful streets, eaten at lots of little restaurants, been down the rivers on a Gondola and taken millions of photos of all the sights, you're sort of left thinking "what shall we do now?"
We pretty much ate pizza the whole time that we were there so I don't think we'll be eating any more pizza for a little while! We regularly stopped at lots of little coffee shops for a drink and a snack, and found ourselves eating gelato after dinner every evening. We didn't have a bad meal anywhere and everyone was always friendly.
The sites that we saw (just from wandering around) were:
- The Grand Canal
- Saint Mark's Basilica
- Piazza San Marco
- Doge's Palace
- Santa Maria Della Salute
It was super cold there so I was wrapped up warm with a woolly coat, scarf, gloves and ear muffs!
I would definitely recommend Venice for a short city break if you're thinking about it. Now I've been I really want to see more of Italy such as Milan, Pisa and Florence because they all look so beautiful as well.
Have any of you been to Venice? If so, what was the best bit in your opinion? Mine was definitely all the beautiful and unique buildings everywhere!
